What is the MAP
The Medida de Autoproteção (self-protection plan, MAP) covers procedures and equipment used to prevent and respond to fire. Decree-Law 220/2008 applies it according to use type and risk category, with specific exceptions.
The obligation falls on the building's owner or operator, not the local council or the fire service. A failed inspection or a change in how the space is used is usually the moment this becomes urgent.
